RECon Asia Shanghai and ICSC World Summit 2012

I have just booked my flights to Shanghai for ICSC RECon Asia and the 2012 ICSC World Summit, 12-14 September, International Convention Center, Shanghai. ICSC have announced that its 2012 event will focus on the social and economic role of shopping centres when it meets. The ICSC said Shanghai was selected as the venue for the event, which is held every five years, because of 'its significant influence in commerce, culture, finance, media fashion, technology and transport.'

The event, expected to draw delegates from 40 countries, will feature a conference, a full day of deal-making, an exhibition showcasing some of the industry's leading players and a shopping centre tour.

Interview with Retail Icon Theo Paphitis

Interviewed Theo Paphitis yesterday, very interesting guy. His new brand Boux Avenue currently has 8 stores across the UK. "it's all about the experience", he says, to read all about this and his expansion plans for the future read the March issue of RLI, which will also be in all the delegate bags at MIPIM, Cannes.

Happy New Year

Well its 2012! I hope that you all had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a prosperous 12 months ahead. At RLI we are already planning our schedule for the year and I'm looking at the travel ahead with much excitement. There are more and more Conferences taking place worldwide and it's always hard to know which to attend so I thought I would start the year by offering you a snapshot of some of the ones I will be attending over the next 6 months and hope that you will enjoy following my travels around the globe.


So here we go... first stop its the Annual Retail Trust London Ball on the 30th January at the Grosvenor Hotel, London. This is where the creme de la creme of retail industry figures congregate so if you are a developer looking at securing your next retail brand you really should attend. Then its off to Cairo,all being well if the current trouble doesn't escalate, for... Cityscape Cairo & Retail City. This is a new event which should be well attended in the light of all the proposed projects but we will have to wait and see what happens over the next few weeks. Another much anticipated event in the retail calendar is ICSC Europe, this year taking place in Berlin, 18-20 April, where industry CEO's meet to discuss everything from investment ambitions to retailer strategies and development goals. I will also be hosting a round-table discussion "Mapping International Trends to stay one step ahead of the competition" and RLI is again an International Media Partner so the April issue will be distributed to all Delegates. May sees two events for the retail industry, the first is the Global Department Store Summit, which is to be held on the 10th & 11th May at the iconic Centre Pompidou in Paris.
